Town Helped Me to Loose Weight
When Sara Simpson chose to lose weight, she invited your readers of the newspaper in her own hometown - all 500,000 of these - to cheer her on.
Despite her supporters, Sara understood that there is only one way she'd lose fat successfully: she needed to get it done for herself. And she or he did, losing 91 pounds in 18 months.
Sara, a 42-year-old marketing manager, had struggled together with her weight since secondary school and continued every type of diet known to womankind, she says. When she reached 20st 6lb, she despaired that she'd never achieve a healthy weight.
When her husband suggested they start exercising for an aerobics video every evening, she reluctantly chose to join him. She admits that her heart wasn't inside it - until she realized that her clothes were looser after just 3 weeks of exercising. Inspired, she chose to give weight loss one more try.
Ever the marketing professional, Sara wondered whether her story had any publicity potential for the newspaper that employed her. So she proposed that the reporter chronicle her quest.
Monthly, the newspaper ran articles on her behalf progress. Additionally , it set up a unique voice-mail number to ensure that readers could leave messages for Sara. “Heard from a myriad of people - husbands who wanted their wives to lose weight, teenagers, even people externally the paper's readership area,” she says. They offered their encouragement and requested her suggestions on weight loss.
While grateful for the support of her husband and also the strangers who followed her story within the newspaper, Sara kept reminding herself that she was dimming down on her sake with no one else's.
“If you lose weight for an additional person, you begin to consider feedback from that individual,” she explains. “If you're doing so since you wish to please your husband but he doesn't appear to notice, you do not get the reward you would expect. But when you're doing so on your own, the reward originates from within you. Then you begin to achieve success.”
With 91 pounds gone, Sara continues to be working towards her goal weight of 12st 71b. She gets so great about herself that she's confident of her capability to go completely.
