Waist-To-Hip Ratio (WHR)

Identifies patients with abdominal fat accumulation. It's a recognised clinical method by which the waist is measured at the narrowest point and the hips are measured at the widest point. The waist measurement is then divided by the hip measurement.

A high WHR is defined as above 1.0 in men and above 0.85 in women. A healthy range is beneath these two values.

Like waist circumference, WHR only identifies the distribution of your abdominal fat, so it is wise to make use of it in conjunction with another, more sensitive measure.

Like waist circumference, it's easy to do, using a simple tape measure.
